Men of the Maghreb (Western North Africa from Tunisia to Morocco) wrap themselves in these graceful sweeping capes year-round. Made of black, brown, or white camel hair woven into rough homespun or the finest broadcloth, the Burnoose lends protection from mountain winds and desert sun. Worn by Berber tribesmen over loose tunics and pants and by urban executives in Casablanca over business suits and ties, it offers endless possibilities for wrapping and draping.

Featuring the drama of a half-circle sweep, the shoulder area falls on the bias and the Burnoose molds itself smoothly to the upper arms. A permanent center front closure holds the garment in place just below the throat. The edges can be finished with a variety of trims.

The ample rectangular hood is attractive worn up on the head close to the face (for mystery) or casually flung back (for dash). A long tassel at the peak of the hood is essential to add weight and to provide the perfect visual accent.

The Burnoose is a striking wrap for women and men in shorter daytime length or traditional ankle length. You'll find it takes on a variety of moods, depending on fabric choice; use coarse, tweedy wool for a sporty look, or an elegant brushed wool for evening excitement.
